Sandbox is an interdisciplinary creator’s organization at Middle Tennessee State University. The group’s motto, “We Foster Creators” is also their mission statement. Whatever creative project a student, other student organization, or faculty member may be pursuing, Sandbox tries to find a way to support their goals. Sandbox also sponsors its own collaborative projects, such e-zines and video games, the MT Living Literature Project and this very site, MTSU Creates.
In this, the 2018-2019 school year, Sandbox is adding to its highly successful e-zine series (we won the Southern Literary Festival’s e-zine competition two years running!) with Sci-fi themed issue, and we are expanding a collection of video games which began with last year’s Star Blasters! In the fall semester, we will also continue having movie nights approximately every other week directly after regular membership meetings. and we’re working to collaborate with at least two other student organizations, the Nashville Fashion Alliance (NFA) and Middle Tennessee’s Performing Arts Company (MPAC), to produce videos of their events. All in all, it’s looking to be a very busy and productive year!
Sandbox is open to any student, staff, or faculty member of Middle Tennessee State University. In an effort to promote inclusion and diversity, there are no dues or fees to join the organization, and if an individual is unable to attend the Friday afternoon meetings (4 to 6 pm in Peck Hall 327), they can participate as active members on the group Discord discussion boards. To join, visit the Student Organizations and Service Sandbox page.
